MB Free Sparring Footwork
In this section, we will spend 15 minutes working on free sparring footwork, and two basic footwork drills.
BD 40 Second Kicking Practise
Here’s a quick drill I do when I find myself with a quiet moment before class. Doing this once a week for a year is better than doing it 50x, once.
BD The three types of apkumchi / ball of the foot
Did you know that there are actually three types of apkumchi / ball of the foot?
BD Balance After Kicks
Retaining balance before and during kicking is usually not a problem. Here’s a tip for doing the same after kicking – bring the kicking foot back under the body without delay. This returns the centre of mass closer to the centre of balance.
BD Leaning Over To Kick Higher
A key element of kicking higher is leaning over. By dropping the body the leg raises higher. Start low and experiment with leaning more and more. Add this to your flexibility training and you will see higher kicks.
BD Slow Motion leg Control
A set of leg raises I recommend for increasing leg strength, flexibility, balance and core stability
